Old Tabby is a course as spectacular as the Island itself. The experience is truly private. Quiet enjoyment and camaraderie, await all who play this Member-only course.

Arnold Palmer built one of his greatest courses at Spring Island. The golf legend enjoyed Spring Island so much that he and his wife spent many years returning with their grandchildren. One story divulges that the “Spring Island Tea”, a lemonade/sweet tea libation is now known nationwide as “The Arnold Palmer”. Arnold Palmer took such a liking to the Island’s signature refreshment that when he was away from Spring Island he would order the drink frequently and eventually cementing his name with the Island-inspired concoction.

Known as one of Palmer’s top 2 designs, Old Tabby Links at Spring Island is fully immersed in the landscape. With no homes visible from the course, golfers are in their element throughout the game.

Paved cart paths have been forsaken for dirt walkways, preventing runoff and accommodating walkers. With a casual atmosphere and the no rush attitude, golf here is truly a leisure pursuit.
Old Tabby underwent a timely update beginning in 2012. Delivering on the renovation plan and vision of its original designer, Ed Seay. At that time, Old Tabby was fully restored using native plants. This approach helped make the course less labor intensive by saving water and warding off would-be animal snackers.
It also preserved the natural experience of Lowcountry golf. The native plant enthusiasm has carried over through the years and to this day, Old Tabby’s superintendent, Jay Gratton, also a Master Naturalist, collects seeds from these plants native to the Island and disperses them throughout the grounds to facilitate more of this natural growth and nourishment.
